Overhead Door Closers
Overhead Door Closers - For Safety and Security
An overhead door closer is a surface mounted door closer, fitted to the head of a door and is available in either a slide arm or scissor arm configuration. They ensure that a door closes after every use for a variety of reasons; such as to help limit the spread of fire throughout a building, ensure that the security of a door is maintained, or to aid the acoustic properties of a building.
These types of mechanical door closers are found in many different areas such as offices, classrooms, commercial facilities, or healthcare buildings. We supply a selection of light duty, medium duty or heavy duty door closers - the bigger the power size, the more heavy duty it is. If you’re unsure which one you need, take a look at our blog Selecting the Right Door Closer.
Reliable Fire Protection
Usually, an overhead door closer is used on a fire door to ensure that the door closes by itself after it has been opened so if there was a fire, the door would be closed to prevent fire and smoke moving too quickly throughout a building. This is known as compartmentalising a building.
Our range includes overhead fire door closers, in both slide arm and scissor arm configurations. We have many brands and models that are Certifire approved for use on fire doors and carry the CE mark. Overhead door closers installed on a fire door must be no less than a power size 3 to be fully compliant with UK Fire Door Regulations.
If you require fire doors to be held open, rather than install a magnetic closer, you can fit an electromagnetic door holder to a door and use it in conjunction with a standard overhead door closer. The magnet will release when the alarm sounds or the power is cut, and the closer will ensure the door closes fully into the frame.
Choose the Perfect Fit for Your Needs
Most overhead door closers have adjustment screws that control the closing speed and the latching speed. The closing speed affects how slowly or quickly a door closes, whilst the latching speed controls the final degree of the door closing, usually 15°-0°.
Our high quality door closers are manufactured by top brands such as Briton, Dorma, Arrow and Geze. We have models to suit both external and internal doors, with adjustable or fixed power sizes.
If you have a lightweight store door or a substantial FD60 fire rated corridor door, you will find a closer to suit your specific need.
- Light Duty - Ideal for lighter doors, these closers provide controlled closing, ensuring gentle door operation without compromising security.
- Medium Duty - Strike the right balance between functionality and durability. Our medium duty closers offer reliable performance for moderate traffic doors.
- Heavy Duty - Our heavy duty closers deliver exceptional strength and reliability for heavy weight doors in high traffic areas. They provide long-lasting performance in demanding environments.
Secure Your Space
Security is paramount and our door soft closers offer an added layer of defense. With their precise engineering and robust construction, they maintain the integrity and security of your doors, preventing unauthorised access.
Doors using maglocks, electric strikes, or electric locks would always require a controlled door closing device to be fitted, to provide secure closing. They ensure that the door returns to the closed position after opening, allowing the locking element to correctly engage and secure the door.
