Cables for Access Control Systems

Access control cables are essential for connecting and powering devices across your door entry and building security systems. Whether you're wiring proximity readers, maglocks, or break glass units, the right cable supports performance, safety, and ease of installation.

This range includes alarm, network, and Belden alternative cable options for connecting devices across single or multi-door systems. These cables are suitable for low voltage access control and intruder alarm installations in residential and commercial buildings.

Types of Door Access Control Cables

Available in a range of styles, these low voltage cables support access control, intruder alarm, and building safety systems.

8 Core Alarm Cable

Choose from full copper or CCA cables that are commonly used for wiring maglocks, exit buttons, and keypads. The 8 cores allow multiple devices to run through a single cable, saving time and space during installation.

Belden Equivalent Cable

The Belden style 9540 is a 10 core, screened cable with a low smoke and fume (LSF) sheath making it suited to public buildings and high traffic areas. The extra cores can help compensate for voltage drop on longer runs. The screening offers protection from electrical interface making it especially suited for use with proximity readers, including those in the Paxton range.

Network Cable

Cat5e and Cat6 cables are commonly used to connect access control panels to a network or to link multiple controllers together. Supplied in 305m boxes, they feature 8 core twisted pairs to support reliable data transmission.

Cabling for Common Access Control Hardware

We stock a selection of multi-core cables that support common components used in access control systems.

These include:

Security and Access Control Cable Applications

This range of low voltage cables is suitable for a wide variety of security, access, and monitoring systems. Whether you're working on a single door setup or a fully networked building, the right cable helps prevent faults and supports long term system reliability.

These cables can be used in systems such as:

  • Door access control installations
  • Intruder alarm systems
  • IP door entry and intercom networks
  • CCTV and surveillance infrastructure

Suitable for facilities including:

  • Commercial offices and business premises
  • Public buildings
  • Educational sites
  • Hospitals, care homes, and healthcare environments
  • Residential blocks, shared entrances, and apartments

Some projects may require specific cable types, such as screened or low smoke and fume (LSF) options, to meet building safety or fire strategy requirements. Always check the site specification to select the correct cable for your installation.

See our Access Control Cable Guide for information on selecting the right type of cable for your project.
