This mechanical digital code lock option has over 2000 non sequential code options. It is factory-set with a 5 digit code but can be changed to shorter or longer codes. Codes consisting of 1 or 2 digits are not recommended; it is most common for codes to be set between 4 and 7 digits long.
The access code can be changed by removing the unit from the door. Tweezers are supplied as part of the fixing pack in order to change the code. These should be left with the end user or responsible person after installation.
A mechanical digital lock provides secure yet easy access for the building's users. Code entry negates the need for physical keys to be carried to gain access. Physical credentials such as proximity fobs, access cards, or security keys can be lost, damaged, or passed to an unauthorised person. Setting a secure access code that isn't easy to guess, then changing it on a regular basis, can be considered to be a better way to control entry when compared to a key operated lock.
Briton 9260 Digital OAD Instructions
This Briton 9260 coded lock is suitable for use with the Briton 372, 376, 377, 378, 560, 570, and 1438 models of panic and emergency hardware. It should be fitted to the first opening leaf if installing this unit to double doors. Two different spindle packs are supplied as they cover different models of the Briton 376 range panic hardware.
The technical documentation for this digital lock outside access device is available to view or download in the Product Manuals section below. This includes the product data sheet and a document that covers installation and provides instructions on code changing.
This unit has reversible lever operation for left or right hand applications and is easy to retrofit on existing models, although a retrofit plate would be required. It has a shear pin that is designed to break when put under stress, which protects the mechanism against misuse.
The manufacturer advises that no maintenance is required for moving parts and that it should not be oiled. The surface should be regularly cleaned with a soft cloth to maintain the finish, then a light coating of silicone spray provides a protective layer against dirt and grit.
Briton 376 Series Exit Hardware
The Briton series panic and emergency hardware features push bar panic exit devices tested to meet EN 1125 standards for panic exit devices. Escape doors in public areas, or areas with 60+ occupants, should have hardware fitted that is compliant and tested to this standard, which would include shops, schools, hospitals, and cinemas.
The Briton 376 vertical panic bolt is two point locking and suitable for installation on single doors up to 2500mm high. If you require panic hardware for rebated double doors then the Briton 377 double panic bolt set can be installed. Both are suitable for a leaf width of up to 1300mm. When installing panic and escape hardware to pairs of rebated doors, a door co-ordinator or door selector in accordance with EN 1158 should be fitted to ensure the doors close in the correct order.
Briton also manufacturers push pads that conform to EN 179 like the 1438 push pad emergency exit rim panic latch. Products conforming to EN 179 are for use by personnel who are fully aware of the escape routes and have been trained to operate these devices.
If you require an outside access device for a high traffic application then the Briton 1413 lever operated OAD is suitable. Like the 9260, the 1413 knob operated OAD is also recommended for lighter traffic applications.
