Designed for Strength, Built for Real World Demands

The LCN 4040XP closer is engineered to withstand daily use in high traffic, high abuse settings, from hospital corridors to busy school entrances. Components have been refined to provide consistent performance over time, while reducing installation time and ongoing maintenance.

Internally, the closer features:

  • A double heat treated steel pinion for greater wear resistance
  • Full-complement bearings with 0.5" minimum height, reducing leakage and ensuring even wear
  • Forged steel scissor arm to resist bending and failure
  • Tight manufacturing tolerances for accuracy and reliable performance

All internal components are designed to work together to reduce friction, extend service life, and provide controlled, predictable door movement.

The closer is filled with Liquid X all-weather fluid, which reduces the need for seasonal adjustment. This provides reliable door closing speeds in varying temperatures, whether installed in a heated corridor or a draught-prone entrance lobby.

Tested for Fire Door Compliance

The LCN 4040 XP is independently tested and certified for use on fire doors. It complies with both BS EN 1154 and BS EN 1634-1, and carries the UKCA and CE marks. For UK installations, always set the door closer using the EN power sizes as defined by BS EN 1154. The minimum EN power size required for use on a fire door is EN 3.

This closer has been tested to BS EN 1634-1 for:

  • Timber fire doors rated up to 120 minutes
  • Steel fire doors rated up to 60 minutes

Important note: CE and UKCA certification do not apply when the closer is installed in Fig. 61 transom mounting. If used on a fire door, it must be installed in an approved mounting configuration.

You should always refer to the fire test evidence for your door to ensure compliance.

Built for Ease of Installation and Adjustment

The LCN 4040XP is a universal installation unit and non-handed, reducing the need to stock multiple variants and simplifying specification across multiple door types across a building.

A peel-and-stick installation template is included, saving time and designed to improve accuracy during fitting. Once installed, the Green Dial provides a clear, visual indication of the spring power setting, helping reduce guesswork during setup or adjustment during maintenance.

In addition, the closer includes clearly labelled adjustment valves for latch speed, closing speed, and backcheck. These are supported by a positive stop feature to prevent accidental damage during adjustment.

A QR code on the closer body links directly to interactive fitting guides and technical resources.

What’s the difference between EN and ANSI power sizes?
EN power sizes are defined by BS EN 1154, the British and European standard for door closers. ANSI power sizes follow the American standard. While both measure closing force, they use different classification systems.
Does the LCN 4040XP need seasonal adjustment?
The LCN 4040XP uses Liquid X all-weather fluid, which helps maintain consistent performance across temperature changes. In most cases, seasonal adjustment isn’t required, though routine checks and adjustments may still be needed over time.
