The 8823 intumescent kit is designed for use with the Simonswerk TECTUS TE 540 3D Energy concealed hinges. It provides essential passive fire protection for  the aesthetic and functional concealed hinge systems with integrated power transfer.

Fire Safety for Powered Concealed Hinges

When installing concealed door hinges, material must be removed from both the door and frame to accommodate the hinge mechanism. If the door is a fire-rated door, it is essential that its fire integrity is maintained in the event of an emergency to slow the spread of fire throughout the building.

To preserve this integrity, intumescent protection is required around the hinge area. Intumescent materials expand when exposed to heat, sealing any gaps created during hinge installation and helping to contain the fire.

Where TECTUS fire rated hinges are installed on timber fire doors, the appropriate intumescent should also be installed. This helps to seal the hinge cut-out area and maintain the door’s fire resistance.

The TE 540 3D concealed hinge and 8823 intumescent pack have been fire tested to BS EN 1634 and are Certifire Approved for use on 30 minute timber fire doors. The Certifire certificate is available to download from the product documentation section. Always follow the specific test evidence and guidance for your chosen fire door system to ensure compliance.

Accurate Fit for Reliable Performance

This kit is self-adhesive and pre-cut for convenience and to aid quick, consistent, and compliant installation. It should be applied to both the door and frame sides of the hinge body and behind the forends. 

Each set includes all parts needed for one hinge.
