Briton 1413 KE SE Outside Access Device Knob

The Briton 1413 outside access device (OAD) with knob is for use on final exit doors with Briton 376 range panic or emergency exit hardware installed. It is supplied with a 40mm euro profile cylinder as standard.

Key Features of the Briton 1413 Outside Access Knob:

  • Powder coated silver finish
  • 40mm single euro cylinder included (30/10)
  • Supplied with 3 keys
  • Suitable for single and double doors
  • Anti-vandal design
  • Suitable for left or right handed doors
  • Optional key retention
  • Suitable for 40mm to 100mm thick doors
  • Tested up to 200,000 cycles
  • Backplate dimensions: 164mm x 50mm x 60mm
  • Fixings suitable for timber and metal doors
  • Fixings and 8mm square spindle included
  • Maximum leaf weight: 200kg

The knob has an ergonomic design, providing good grip and easy action. They are supplied with three keys so ensure that these are passed to the key holder or responsible person on site. The 1413 is also available as a lever operated outside access device which is BS 8300 compliant and site reversible. The anti-vandal design allows the lever to rotate when the unit is locked. The common footprint allows the units to be interchanged.

Another lever operated outside access lock device option is the Briton 9260 digital lock OAD. Rather than being key operated, external access is granted by a user entering a code into a keypad. This mechanical digital lock has over 2000 non-sequential code options and is supplied with extra long spindles to suit doors from 40mm to 60mm thick.

Briton 1413 Fitting Instructions

There is technical documentation available to view or download in the Product Manuals section below. This includes the installation instructions (date published September 2022), fitting template, and product technical data sheet. When installing any outside access device to a pair of double doors, ensure that it is fitted to the first opening leaf. Once fitted to any door, the latch bolt of the OAD must withdraw and retract smoothly with every operation.

The 1413 NC is the version with no cylinder supplied with the unit, which can be ordered as a special. This model is perfect for use in a facility such as a school or a hospital where an existing master key system is in place. A master key suited single euro cylinder can be fitted into the no-cylinder NC OAD. If keyed alike cylinders are required, or cylinders to operate under a master key system, contact our technical sales team for more information.

The manufacturer recommends monthly visual and physical checks of their panic hardware to ensure that it is fully operational. Details of the suggested safety checks can be found on the product data sheet. They include functional examination of the OAD, and visual inspections for obstructions of the hardware. They also cover reviews and maintenance of the door itself and other ironmongery like fire door hinges.

Briton 376 Series Exit Hardware

The Briton 376 range includes panic bar exit devices tested to EN 1125, like the Briton 378 rim panic latch for use on single doors, or the Briton 377 double panic bolt set for use on rebated pairs of doors. Exit hardware to this standard is for use in areas where personnel and members of the public will not be aware of how the exit devices operate in an emergency.

If you require emergency exit hardware tested to EN 179 then the Briton 372 vertical panic bolt is two point locking with a push pad, whilst the Briton 1438 push pad is single point locking with a rim latch. Exit hardware to this standard is for use by personnel who are aware of the escape routes and have been trained to operate the escape door hardware.

The 1413 LE SE OAD is site reversible, and the lever provides good grip, so it is best to use this version in high traffic areas. The Briton 1413 KE and LE are available in a range of finishes including polished brass, satin stainless steel, and polished stainless steel. The 1413 can also be used in conjunction with the Briton 560 and 570 ranges, the 561, 571, 573, and 581 models.

Various parts and accessories are available for this outside access device. This newer model 1413 replaces a previous series so when renewing an existing Briton 1413 you may require the retrofit conversion plate. Spare lever packs and knob packs are also available as a special order.
