Access Control
Access Control Systems for Secure and Reliable Entry
Door access control restricts who can enter an area, room, or building or who can use a particular resource. Basic access control comes in the form of mechanical digital locks which can be found in the Locks and Security section of our website.
There are different elements that make up systems, different types of access control, and various factors that need to be considered when making a decision on what Solutions will be required.
Access Controls Keypads
Keypads are very common in access control systems. They range from light duty to heavy duty, and many are IP rated, so are suitable for external use (rain covers or surrounds may be required if they are in an area where they are exposed to the elements).
Keypads can accommodate anything from one or two codes up to 500 or more. Read our product spotlight on door keypad locks to discover more about the different types, IP ratings, and more.
Proximity & PIN Keypads and Proximity Readers
Some keypads can also incorporate a proximity reader so entry can be made by either presenting a fob, a card, or PIN entry. There are also units that use the keypad in order to programme the token on the door, such as the KPX2000 and ACT5E Prox. These types of keypads utilise RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Technology.
Access Control Kits
Our access control kits have been put together to make it easier for you to find a ready-made solution for your facility. With some kits, you may require an additional keypad, proximity reader or an exit button.
Exit Buttons & Emergency Break Glass Units
We stock a range of exit buttons, including:
- Accessible models
- Narrow style designs
- Traditional green-domed push to exit buttons
If you require something more specific, we can also source custom-made exit buttons.
Most access control systems will need an emergency break glass unit. They may not be required in certain situations, such as:
- When a fail secure electric strike is used
- Where there is an alternative escape route available
- If the installation has been approved by the relevant authority (for example in mental health facilities)
We also stock dual units that combine a push to exit button and an emergency break glass in one device.
Power Supplies, Transformer Rectifiers & Battery Backup
We have a range of regulated power supplies in 12V DC and 24V DC that can house rechargeable battery backup if required. They are available with different Amp options to suit the components in your system.
Transformer Rectifiers do not require battery backup and are ideal for use with electromagnetic door closers and hold open magnets.
Relays
Relays are a type of electrically controlled switch. They can have a variety of uses but ultimately are used in situations where isolation of a component in an access control system is required or within a circuit as a form of protection device, breaking the circuit should the current be too high.
Transmitter & Receivers
If you have a wireless exit button or keypad, you will require a transmitter to emit a signal and a receiver to read it and communicate with access control on a door. Some transmitters have a radio control button that emits a signal to a receiver. These can be used in applications such as gates, doors, barriers, and lights.
Key switches
Key switches are beneficial in access control situations where an easy system override is required. Key switches are either:
- Momentary: the key turns back after it is released
- Maintained: the key remains in either an on or off position until turned back
Key switches can be placed within reception areas to allow control of the door and entry into the area, or in conjunction with automatic operators.
Access Control Cables
Our selection of access control cables supports reliable installation across a wide variety of systems. You’ll find 8 core alarm cable in both full copper and CCA options, suitable for wiring most access control components.
For proximity readers, a screened 10 core cable helps reduce electrical interference and maintain consistent performance. We also supply Category cable for networked access control setups, ensuring smooth communication and dependable operation.
Intercom Systems
We also supply intercom systems that allow occupants to speak with visitors before granting entry. These systems are commonly installed alongside electric locks to create a controlled entrance.
Audio intercoms allow users to communicate through an internal handset, while video intercom systems add camera verification so occupants can see who is at the door before unlocking it.
Access Control Systems
Smart access control systems are designed for modern buildings and connected door management. These solutions allow doors to be unlocked using smartphones, PIN codes, fingerprints, or digital credentials, making them ideal for doors where convenience and remote control are important.
Our ranges include:
- ACTpro: software managed access control with door controllers and stations
- Tedee Smart Locks: keyless door access
- ISEO Connected: smart door handles and cylinders
Access Management Made Easy
If you need internal and external access management security solutions, then we have product solutions for you. How access control works very much depends on your requirements - whether this is security level, fire escape plan, preference for code, proximity, or biometric entry/exit, the size of your premises, its users - all sorts.
Implementing access control to your facility could mean a basic kit is fitted to a standalone door or a complete networked system across multiple buildings or sites. We can provide tailored quotations, and our technical team is happy to help.
