Tedee Euro Adapter: Keep Your Cylinder while Upgrading to Smart Access
This Tedee PRO adapter allows you to install your smart lock onto your existing euro profile cylinder, as long as it meets the compatibility requirements. You can keep your current cylinder and keys while upgrading to smart access.
Your cylinder must include a double clutch emergency function. If retaining your existing cylinder is not essential, a Tedee PRO Kit is available. It includes a dedicated Tedee-ready cylinder for straightforward installation without key modification.
Alternatively, the Tedee GO Smart Lock can be used with a compatible double clutch cylinder without cutting the key, though it is battery powered rather than rechargeable like the Tedee PRO.

How the Tedee Cylinder Adapter Works
This Tedee PRO euro adapter connects the smart lock to your cylinder. The cylinder must protrude at least 2mm beyond the door or escutcheon to allow the adapter base to grip securely. If the cylinder does not protrude sufficiently, replacing it with a longer one is recommended.
The adapter has two parts:
- A round base that rests on the cylinder and secures the smart lock
- An inner shaft that connects the smart lock mechanism to the adapted key inside the cylinder
Why the Double Clutch Function is Essential for Tedee Smart Lock Systems
The emergency function, also known as dual-clutch or anti-panic, allows the cylinder to operate with two keys inserted at the same time. This is essential because the Tedee adapter uses an adapted key on the inside of the door. With a double clutch cylinder, you can still unlock the door from the outside using a traditional key.
Without this function, the internal key would block external access, which could cause issues if manual override is needed, for example, if your phone is unavailable or the smart lock battery needs charging.
How to Check Your Cylinder for Emergency Function
You can check compatibility in a few simple steps:
- Insert a key on both sides of the cylinder at the same time.
- If two keys cannot be inserted simultaneously, the cylinder is not compatible.
- If both keys insert successfully, rotate one key.
- If the key on the opposite side also turns, the cylinder has a double clutch function and is compatible.
If the keys do not rotate together, the cylinder does not have the required emergency function. In this case, you would need a new cylinder for use with the Tedee Smart Lock. Installing the Tedee Smart Lock and Adapter
To install the Tedee PRO using the euro adapter, follow these steps:
- Mark the key where it needs to be shortened.
- Have the key professionally cut.
- Insert the adapter shaft into the smart lock and secure it.
- Attach the adapter base to the lock.
- Insert the cut key into the cylinder and mount the assembly onto the door.
After installation, pair the lock with the Tedee app and complete calibration.
