Shear Lock with Built-In Monitoring and Auto Relock
The EMS1200 includes a PCB controller with door status monitoring and auto relock functionality. The lock will attempt to re-engage up to 100 times if misalignment occurs during closing. Once the armature is correctly positioned, the lock secures the door as intended. If engagement is not achieved after 100 attempts, opening and re-closing the door will reset the system.
This helps maintain security where door alignment may vary and reduces the risk of the door being left unsecured.
Installing the Alpro EMS1200 Shear Lock

Alignment Guidance
Make sure the magnet and armature are aligned correctly to support smooth shearlock operation.
- Maximum gap between magnet face and armature:
4mm at 12V DC
5mm at 24V DC
- Minimum clearance between shear pins and armature: 1mm
- Mounting position: horizontal only (not suitable for vertical installation)
If you need a vertically mounted electric lock, then consider the Alpro DB25 deadlocking bolt.
Power Supply
- Use a regulated DC power supply unit (minimum 2A per shear lock)
- Position the PSU as close to the lock as possible to reduce voltage drop
Cabling
The EMS1200 is supplied with a 3m cable, which should be used as part of the installation. If additional length is required:
- Use multi-core stranded alarm cable
- Double or treble cores on longer runs to minimise voltage drop
- Do not use solid core telephone cable
