Quick and Easy for Installers
This door retainer can be quickly installed with four simple steps. Cable entry is easily accessed on the side of the door holder body. The unit is secured to the wall with four screws, with two additional fixings attaching the cover in place. The chosen armature plate can then be fixed to the door so that the plate and magnet align.
To avoid inflicting twisting forces on the door leaf, it is recommended that the door retainer be fitted in the same horizontal plane as the fire door closer, or as close as is practical. Failure to do so can result in the door leaf twisting. This can prevent the door from closing properly in an emergency, which impacts effective compartmentation.
Once installed, check that the magnetic door holder releases correctly by using the integral test button. This is the red button on the top of the magnet body. A separate manual release button can be installed at a lower height, if required.
Door Holder Accessories
MAG and MAW armature plate variations allow for fixed or adjustable holding. The MAG plate is a fixed, circular disc with a small projection. This should be used where a door opens to 90° back against a wall.
The MAW plate allows for adjustable contact between the wall-mounted magnet and door-mounted armature plate. Install this option when the door opens beyond 90°, up to 150°.

dormakaba EM500A for Compliant Hold Open
The EM500A is CE marked to BS EN 1155 - Electrically Powered Hold Open Devices for use on swing doors. Fire and smoke doors can be compliantly held open by electromagnetic door holders, which, in the event of a fire, are de-energized to release the door. The door closer fitted then provides the automatic closing.
When the fire alarm is triggered or the power fails, the fire door will close automatically, so make sure both faces of the door have an Automatic Fire Door Keep Clear sign fitted. Select a finish to match the other items of door hardware.
