Monitored vs. Unmonitored
Opting for a monitored electric strike provides the advantage of connecting to an external device such as a beacon, sounder, or alarm system. This allows for monitoring whether the latch is engaged or unengaged in the strike.
In contrast, unmonitored electric strikes lack this capability, offering no means to wire in monitoring. Consequently, there is no indication of the strike's locking status, leaving you without insight into its operational condition.
Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure
This ANSI electric strike is fail safe/ fail secure reversible. The most appropriate function for your door should be selected at the time of installation. You can easily change this electric strike to either fail open (PTL or power to lock) or fail secure (PTO or power to open) by changing the position of the screw.
Understanding the difference between fail safe and fail secure is essential for selecting the right function for your door. Fail safe ensures that in the event of a power failure the door unlocks, prioritising safe egress for occupants. Fail secure maintains the door locked during power outages, enhancing security and preventing unauthorised access. When choosing fail safe or secure always consider the balance of security and safe egress.
