This non-coin release bathroom turn is intended for use in a supervised facility where a designated key holder has access to the external release key at all times.
The current (from November 2020) guidelines from the Department of Education are that toilet doors in schools and colleges should have a key release to the external face of the door, rather than the common coin release function. The guidelines also state that the toilet should be locked from the inside using a turn lever, which allows for ease of operation by a wider breadth of user. Smaller, knob-operated bathroom turns can be difficult to grip and operate so installing this bathroom turn provides a more accessible ironmongery solution.
In addition to schools and other educational facilities, this accessible bathroom thumb turn and indicator can be fitted in leisure facilities and public spaces including hospitality establishments, providing there is a responsible person on hand at all times who can access the release key in case emergency access is required.
At Door Controls Direct we stock a range of matching satin stainless steel door handles, kickplates, and WC signage. This thumbturn bathroom lock has a 5mm spindle so is suitable for use with various bathroom mortice locks, and tubular deadbolts. We have bathroom door locks in a variety of sizes, including DIN standard locks with 78mm centres, that comply with the dimensional requirements of BS 8300.
There are several alternatives to bathroom turn and release locks if there is a requirement for a different way to lock or access a WC/bathoom door. The Zoo Hardware ZAA100SA is a facility indicator set that is supplied with an external indicator and coin release, internally it has a lift to lock function so the handle is raised to lock the door; it's not separate to the locking element. The ACL500 radar lock also has a lift to lock function internally but has radar key access externally.
We also have standard toilet indicator bolts that suit doors 28mm-48mm thick, that don't require a mortice lockcase. There is also a lift to lock and kit that we have compiled, which consists of a mortice lock, lift to lock door handles, an emergency coin release, plus a blank escutcheon. We have created a fire rated version of this kit which is supplied with the intumescent lock jacket.
If you require other door hardware products or ironmongery for WCs and bathrooms, our General Hardware section includes bathroom and washroom accessories, soap dispensers, and a range of grab rails.
