Release Key for Disabled Turn and Release

The key for the ARRONE AR961/69D-NC disabled turn and release has the following features:

  • Overall length: 85mm
  • Overall projection: 50mm
  • 12mm diameter
  • 8mm square drive

The non-coin release bathroom turn and indicator is intended for installation in a supervised facility, where there is a designated key holder who has access to this external release key at all times. The key-operated release provides increased privacy compared to a coin-operated release as the door can only be unlocked externally by the key holder.

The current  guidelines (from November 2020) from the Department of Education are that toilet doors in colleges and schools should have a key-operated release to the external face of the WC door, not the more common coin release function. The guidelines also state that a toilet should be locked from the inside using a lever turn, which allows for easy operation by a wider breadth of user. Smaller, knob-operated WC turns can be difficult to grip and operate so installing a lever bathroom turn provides a more accessible ironmongery solution.

In addition to schools and other educational buildings, the accessible bathroom thumb turn and indicator with release key can be fitted in leisure facilities and public spaces including hospitality and catering establishments, providing there is a designated responsible person available at all times who has access to the release key in case emergency access is required.

At Door Controls Direct we stock a range of matching satin stainless steel door handleskickplatesWC signage, plus a range of bathroom mortice locksand tubular deadboltsincluding DIN standard locks.

There are several alternatives to bathroom turn and release locks from the Zoo Hardware ZAA100SA facility indicator set, the ACL500 radar lock, to standard toilet indicator bolts to suit doors 28mm-48mm thick. There is also a lift to lock and kit for WC doors that we have compiled, which contains a mortice lock, lift to lock door handles, emergency coin release, and a blank escutcheon. There is also a fire rated version of this kit that includes an intumescent lock jacket.

If you require other ironmongery or door hardware products for bathrooms and WCs, our General Hardware category has bathroom and washroom accessoriessoap dispensersand a selection of grab rails.
