Exitex Surface Mounted Intumescent Strip

This Exitex surface mounted intumescent fire and smoke seal is a 5.2m self-adhesive strip designed for retrofitting 30 minute fire rated timber doors tested to BS 476: Part 22. It requires no routing or specialist tools, making it ideal for maintenance, upgrade, or compliance works in occupied buildings.

The seal provides dual protection: the intumescent expands in fire conditions to help slow the spread of flames, while the integrated brush limits smoke movement. Supplied with an alcohol wipe and fire door signage stickers, it supports quick installation in commercial, residential, and public buildings.

Self Adhesive Intumescent Seal for 30 Minute Timber Fire Doors

This Exitex self adhesive surface mounted intumescent strip is tested to BS 476: Part 22 for 30 minutes fire resistance and smoke tested to BS EN 1634-3:2004. In the event of fire, the intumescent material expands to seal perimeter gaps, helping to contain fire and smoke within the compartment and maintain protected escape routes.

Important: This Exitex intumescent strip should only be fitted to timber frames and doors that have been successfully tested for a period of 30 minutes in accordance with the criteria of BS 476 Part:22:1987. Use on non-certified or incompatible doors may invalidate fire test evidence and compromise building safety.

How to Install the Exitex Intumescent Strip

This Exitex intumescent seal is designed for fast, no-routing installation. It’s suitable for retrofit and maintenance works where time and access are limited. The self adhesive backing provides a clean application, and the included alcohol wipe prepares the surface.

• Clean surfaces with the supplied alcohol wipe to remove dust and grease.
• Remove the backing tape and position the brush at the door stop. Smoothing the seal along the frame.
• Apply around the door frame, including over the hinges and latch. Use a sharp knife to cut at the corners for a tight fit. Cut around the latch plate to allow the latch to engage when the door is closed.
• Check that appropriate fire door signage is used.
• Allow the self-adhesive to cure overnight.

Fire Door Signage

Fire door signage must be installed correctly to support compliance. Fire door stickers are included with this product. However, additional or alternative signage may be required depending on the door type and usage. 

For example:

• Fire Door Keep Locked signs are only required on one side of the door.
• Automatic Fire Door Keep Clear for doors fitted with electromagnetic hold open or swing free door closers.
